Industrial Drum Heating Equipment
Airflow Drum Heating Ovens are operated worldwide and are designed specifically for the heated storage, process and, viscosity reduction of a wide range of materials, e.g. waxes, fats, resins, polymers, isocyanates, surfactants, oils, inks, lubricants, adhesives, foodstuffs and, many other viscous products.
Supply sectors for this range of Airflow's Oven include; chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical, rubber, plastics, adhesives, printing, oil industry, aerospace, honey, fruits and, many other foodstuffs that require Drum Heating.

Applications for product heating are varied but, in its simplest form, the Oven provides heated storage for products that have a viscosity, at ambient temperature, which is difficult to decant from its container. Where, containers can be in the form of drums, barrels, IBC, gas bottles, process vessels, etc. and, constructed from metal, plastic or, fibre.
Airflow Drum Heating equipment provides an enclosed storage facility that raises and accurately maintains product temperatures by continually re-circulating heated air through the Oven chamber via a self-contained heater box integral to its construction. This provides a very energy efficient solution that differs significantly from alternative methods including jacket heaters, band and ring heaters, pad heaters and, hot plates which depend upon less effective electrical induction heating.
Re-circulated air technology provides the most efficient use of energy and, facilitates Drum Heating by less costly services that may already exist on customer sites, e.g. steam. The process ensures product containers do not come in direct contact with the heat source, which eliminates any risk of damage to either product or, container.
For steam and heated fluid systems the heater box incorporates, as standard, a low maintenance and energy efficient heat exchanger. Direct and indirect gas-fired options are available and, electrically-heated heater boxes incorporate an element bank of incoloy elements. Gas-fired heating is provided by modern technology and easily maintained pre-packaged burners, available in standard or modulating Drum Heating formats.
The Oven incorporates a damper-controlled exhaust, as standard, to ventilate either products of combustion from direct-fired heating or, fumes emitted by the product Drum Heating process. Where, an interlock is provided between the exhaust and the heat source to terminate heating in the exceptional event of exhaust failure.
Ovens provide bulk storage and are loaded by conventional materials handling methods, e.g. palletised or individual drums transported by forklift and pallet truck, rather than induction systems that typically require drums and containers to be handled and processed individually in an open shop environment, and consuming significantly greater factory space.
The open format of the Oven enclosure also provides space for Drum Heating rotators and other process equipment, e.g. mould heating, pump stations, etc.
For many applications, the rotation of product during Drum Heating will significantly reduce warm-up times. Airflow has been manufacturing Ovens and allied equipment from its Sheffield facility for in excess of 25 years. Where, technical excellence and customer support have been key to our success.
Ovens are supplied for both internal and external locations and are designed specifically for drum and IBC heating. Not other forms of industrial oven, e.g. box oven, curing oven, etc. operated at lower temperature. They are manufactured in a range of standard sizes to house from 4 to 32 (210 Litre) drums in both single and 2-tier formats, with either multi-leaf hinged door or, insulated roller-shutter door access. Non standard capacity/formats and thermodynamic calculations are also available from Airflow's technical design department. And, technical field sales and engineering departments are available for on site advice.
Drum Heating options include; electric, gas, steam, hot water and, oil.
Airflow energy efficient air re-circulating Drum Heating Ovens provide thermostatically controlled temperatures, as standard, up to 100°C, and are manufactured using latest CAD/CAM technology to provide solutions to today’s most exacting requirements. Produced from modular components for assembly on site , Airflow provide customer-specific designs, fully specified and costed quotations, delivery (by specialist transport), installation, (data logged) commissioning and, a comprehensive after sales service.
Airflow is an ISO9001 accredited Company and, all Drum Heating equipment and machinery is supplied with CE Certification.
Racking can be provided for drum and/or IBC storage, with manual, forklift or, pallet truck access. Accessories include; bunded and spillage bases, buffer rails, stainless-steel construction and, weather enclosures for externally-sited Ovens.
For more demanding Drum Heating applications, Ovens are supplied with ATEX approval (T1 to T6) in both zones; gas (1 and 2) and, dust (21 and 22) for deployment in explosive atmospheres. Where, non-ATEX control panels can be sited remotely where conditions permit.
All Ovens include a comprehensive 12month Parts & Labour Warranty and Calibration Service supported by Corgi registered and IEE 17th Edition electrically-qualified engineers. With recommended spares, full Operating & Maintenance Instructions and, Maintenance Contracts provided as standard.
Airflow provide energy audits and, work with the Carbon Trust to provide interest free loans throughout its entire range of products. Airflow Oven clients include; DOW, Henkle, BF Goodrich, Rolls Royce, McLaren, Mentholatum, Huntsman Chemicals, Weetabix, British Petroleum (BP), Balmoral Group, Linpac, Bonaprene, Trelleborg, Stepan, Phizor, BAE, Alcan, Molnlycke Health Care, Nalco, Genzyme, Smith & Nephew and Coty.
